Blue Flowers

In the midst of the storm, remember who calms the raging seas!

Everywhere you look floral arrangements take up any and all available space; the majority of them in the most brightest & beautiful shades blue has to offer. That was her favorite color, and she loved flowers. My mother in law was a very special lady, hence the flowers filling the room. She had the most selfless & giving heart, and she took care of Everyone. It’s incredibly hard to believe it’s almost been two years since we said goodbye.

This morning as my husband is getting ready to go to his cardiologist appointment, I am feeling so Very Grateful! It’s been a long hard road getting to a diagnosis. These doctors took such good care of him. They kept him in the hospital for a week, running every single test they could think to run. They took the time to consult with other specialists, and really figure out what was going on. A few weeks ago we didn’t think we’d ever get here.

As I drove to the hospital, I had no way of knowing what kind of shape my husband was in. I had gotten that dreaded phone call no one wants to get. All I knew was that he had another episode with his heart, and they were life-flighting him to a bigger hospital. The ambulance was taking him to a local hospital but while in route his heart stopped, so they decided to fly him to another. My babies were scared and crying, and as I kept telling them daddy’s gonna be okay, I thought, why do we do that?? Why do we tell our kids that things are okay when we have no idea if they are or not. I was questioning my choice as a parent to tell them that, but I didn’t have time to think about it.

In our neck of the woods we’re a good ways away from a couple small hospitals, let alone the ones that have the resources to treat cardiovascular problems. I was driving fast as I could without being reckless, and finally after two hours of not knowing anything, just as I’m pulling into the hospital my phone rings. It was Greg’s ER nurse, he told me they had gotten him stable, and that he was awake and talking. It was such a relief to hear that he is okay, but at the same time, this isn’t the first time and not going to be the last. He’s been having these spells for a while, but they were becoming more frequent and more severe. His job requires him to be in remote locations, alone & without cell service, so we were obviously getting more and more frightened of it happening when there was no one around to call for help.

Sitting in the emergency room, I could see that my husband was still weak, but his demeanor was different. He was quiet, and if you know my husband that’s the last word you’d use to describe him. Again I find myself awkwardly and hesitantly saying “It’s gonna be okay.” The ER doctor came and updated us on some of the test results. Everyone was so kind and the doctor told us they were goin to get answers for us this time. We knew he meant it and his intentions were great, but we’d heard that before. The chance of figuring it out was getting lower and lower as every test kept coming back normal. But just as our skepticism peaked, Greg’s sister made it to us and she had with her a tiny surprise within which was the biggest and best news we could have gotten!

Angie was working her typical Sunday evening shift when she got the call about her brother. She couldn’t leave until someone else came to take over so she nervously and hurriedly tried to just get through it. His other sister was on her way to him, but there were some things that restricted her from the ER at the time, and it was so hard on her to not get to come and be with him. Losing their mother has been the hardest thing we’ve all faced, but it has made us better people and brought us closer. The best way to honor Someone who was truly Good is to be Good and continue to pass that down.

While Angie was finishing up, a gentleman began talking to her. He said “Do you believe in God sissy?” (Yes people out here in the country really talk that way. Lol) Then he told her the reason he asked. He gave her a prayer cloth, & he said “The Lord told me to give this to you, & that you would know who the message inside is for.”

When she gave the prayer cloth to Greg he opened it up and on the inside was the outline of a hand, and written was “We lay hands on the sick in Jesus name and they will be healed.” As soon as we read it we all started to cry & get chills. God’s precious holy presence fell around us and we suddenly remembered in the midst of this storm, who controls the raging seas. And when our loved ones pass on, they still have a way of watching over us; the prayer cloth was outlined in beautiful bright blue flowers.

When they moved Greg up to a room, the prayer cloth was no where to be found. We were lookin in blankets and under the bed, how on earth did it just disappear?! I was getting so upset! This little piece of fabric meant so much to us. But Greg & Angie both at the same time told me to let it go, their mommy had sent it on to the next person that needed healing.
